Animal testing and research is highly debated around our world, with people comparing the successes of the research to the inhumane side of testing. Many medical advancements can be attributed to animal research, but of course, some tests are unsuccessful or provide no further knowledge. More humane methods of testing are being developed, and the tests that are performed with the intent of harming the animals are backed with painkillers, anesthesia, or euthanasia. However, testing for cosmetic products has proven to be unnecessary and unsuccessful, and also brings distress and pain to animals for no reason. All other religions discussed in the article agree with the morals of testing on animals for medical purposes, including Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Furthering our medical knowledge by researching on animals, given the tests are humane and moral, is supported by many of the world’s major religions. These moral agreements provide reason to believe that humane, medical testing on animals is mostly supported in many societies. The opposing side of this argument states that testing is inhumane, unethical and wasteful. In â€Å"Animal Experimentation is Unethical†, Robert Garner (2002) expresses concern that â€Å"animal experimentation is justified provided any suffering inflicted in the laboratory is perceived to be necessary† (p. 2).
